The International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA) is a nonprofit organization supporting LGBTQ+ rodeo through sanctioned competition, shared standards, and community connection across the United States and Canada.
Who We Are
Founded in 1985, IGRA grew from the Gay Rodeo movement that began in 1976. Today, IGRA is made up of regional Gay Rodeo Associations that bring together contestants, fans, volunteers, and leaders who share a love of rodeo and country western culture
What We Do

Breaking Stereotypes
IGRA was founded on the belief that rodeo can honor tradition and challenge outdated assumptions about who belongs in the arena.
IGRA events are designed to allow all contestants—regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity—to compete in rodeo sports without discrimination. Inclusion, equality, and respect are woven into IGRA’s rules, leadership, and culture.
Equal Competition
Men and women compete in the same rough stock events under the same rules. Unlike most rodeo organizations, IGRA allows all genders to fully compete in bull riding and bronc riding.
Open Team Events
In team events such as Team Roping, Steer Decorating, Wild Drag Race, and Goat Dressing, teams may be formed in any gender combination within competition rules.
Wild Drag Race
A uniquely IGRA event that celebrates drag and performance by incorporating female impersonation into a high-energy team competition.
Inclusive Leadership
IGRA leadership reflects the diversity of its community, including rodeo directors, judges, arena crews, trustees, announcers, and support teams.
IGRA Statement on Gender Identification
IGRA affirms that any member of a Member or Recognized Association is eligible to participate fully in IGRA activities under the gender classification with which they identify.

IGRA rodeos include traditional events such as bull riding, chute dogging, breakaway roping, and barrel racing.

Each rodeo also features playful “camp” events that bring fun, creativity, and community spirit you won’t find anywhere else.
IGRA encourages amateur participation through rodeo schools, helping new contestants learn and compete safely.
OPEN TO ALL
You don’t have to be gay to compete in gay rodeo. IGRA rodeos are open to everyone—gay, straight, cowboys, city-folk, first-timers, and lifelong fans.
