Animal Welfare at IGRA

Animal Welfare at IGRA

Committed to humane, responsible, and respectful treatment of animals in all IGRA-sanctioned events.

IGRA Statement of Position on Animal Welfare

The International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA) promotes animal welfare and the humane, responsible treatment of animals in their housing, feeding, training, exercising, and competition.

IGRA strives to ensure that all events are executed to provide the safest possible environment for both animal and human participants.

Zero Tolerance for Animal Abuse

IGRA does not abuse animals and does not condone animal abuse at any time, in any way, by anyone.

Any contestant, official, or contracted personnel found to be treating animals in an inhumane manner will be immediately reprimanded, penalized, or disqualified in accordance with IGRA rules and bylaws.

Purpose-Built for Safety

IGRA-sanctioned rodeo events operate under modified professional and amateur rodeo rules. These modifications are intentionally designed to protect animal and human participants while still demonstrating the skill and tradition of rodeo.

IGRA supports the responsible use of stock animals and maintains that this use does not constitute abuse when conducted under IGRA’s animal welfare standards.
